" I will cut adrift -
I will sit on pavements and drink coffee - I will dream;
I will take my mind out of its iron cage and let it swim -
this fine October."
{Virginia Woolf}
Well, October has come and gone. With knee surgery the end of September, October gifted me with time abundant to rest and recover. I am thankful for this month of quiet, a calender empty of obligations (other than physical therapy) and the grace to accept my limitations.
Walking was minimal the first few weeks, the one thing that I missed the most. The day that my body was strong enough to take me a couple of miles (albeit, very slowly...), I felt such happiness. To be back out in nature, amidst the glories of the changing colors, the temperate weather...such bliss I felt.
We had the most lovely Indian summer this year. The extra days of warmth and sunshine were appreciated, but, oh, I am loving the arrival of the brisk, chilly days, mornings so cold I bundle up in my down coat for our morning walks. There is something about the definite turn of the season from summer into fall-ish wintry weather that speaks to my soul.
I'm so excited for the cozy months ahead...for the warmth of firelight, steaming mugs of tea, cuddling up with a warm quilt while dreaming away the hours tucked within the pages of a book....
I hope you had a delightful October.
Until next time...
Take care.
