" It is a time of richest sensation:
the sights and smells, obviously,
and the way its daily varying temperatures
makes the skin hypersensitive;
and then there are the sounds ~
rain, wind, dead leaves;
and then its harvest of tastes."
{Seamus Heaney}
" The natural world - I felt at ease;
nature was full of beauty and interest and mystery.
The world of literature ~
offered me, besides the pleasure of form,
the sustenation of empathy.
I ran for it. I relaxed in it.
I stood willingly and gladly in the characters of everything ~
other people, trees, clouds.
And this is what I learned:
that the world's otherness is an antidote to confusion,
that standing within this otherness ~
the beauty and the mystery of the world,
out in the fields or deep inside books ~
can re-dignify the worst-strung heart."
{Mary Oliver}
November...
a month that dazzled
and delighted
those perfect autumn days
one only dreams about.
Mornings so crisp,
I walk...entranced by the wisps of my
breath floating in the air.
I'm energized and excited
with it all.
The one o'clock hour strikes
tea is brewed, fire is lit...
re-united with my beloved Jane Eyre.
I believe this is the tenth year of reading
a much cherished novel.
A November ritual I will carry with me
for the rest of my days...
I spent early November counting down until our son arrived
home from college for Thanksgiving break.
Oh, to have our little family all together...
The best feeling in the world.
Thankfully, he'll be back in 2 weeks
for an extended holiday break.
It always feels like these holiday months
fly by...I'm trying to keep a slower pace
so that maybe, just maybe the month
might saunter a bit slowly.
In the meantime...
I wake with a hopeful heart
that my morning walks will be
a foggy-filled dreamland
(sadly, it hasn't happened yet)
Hope all is well, my friends!
